Clay Pool
Welcome to our project page for Clay Pool BESS, a proposed new 800MW energy storage project located 2km northwest of the village of Elwick, in Hartlepool, England. The project includes land within the administrative areas of Durham County Council and Hartlepool Borough Council.
Pre-application consultation on our proposals is open between 2nd April – 16th April. Feedback at this stage will help us to refine our plans before we submit planning applications to Durham County Council and Hartlepool Borough Council.
All of the consultation information will be available here on this webpage, as well as how you can share your views.
This map shows our proposed site boundary (red line) in relation to the A19 dual carriageway. In selecting the site, we have ensured there is enough suitable land for development while also allowing a significant portion of the site to be used for landscaping and ecological enhancements.
Public Consultation
Feedback from the community, along with our ongoing environmental assessments and technical work, will help to inform our plans for Clay Pool BESS.
We are committed to supporting our communities through a Community Energy Transition Foundation, which invests in those areas where we have operational sites. The Foundation receives funding from each site, proportionate to its size.
To ensure we can take your feedback into account, please engage with the pre-application consultation, and do share any comments with us by Wednesday 16th April 2025. We will consider all feedback we receive before we submit planning applications to Durham County Council and Hartlepool Borough Council.
Both Councils will conduct their own statutory consultation before determining the application.
